I would love to have one of these.

I have always wanted a library-style index card unit like this one, found here.

Jackson Rathbone is an American singer and actor probably best known for the role he plays as Jasper Hale in the twilight movies based on the books written by Stephanie Meyer. Although American, Rathbone was born in Singapore and grew up living all over the world because of his father's job with the Exxon oil Corporation.

Jackson's hairstyle for his character is Jasper Hale has changed from one movie to the next. In the first twilight movie, his hair was medium length with sideburns that jailed so heavily that it almost looked plastic. His entire appearance looked fake in this particular movie, making him look almost like a mannequin.

For the second movie, New Moon, his hair is still a medium long length but looks more natural. Rathbone has naturally wavy hair which gives it texture. For the second movie, he was not forced to wear as much gel, therefore his hair and his entire face appear more realistic.

In addition to his character as Jasper Hale, Rathbone is also a singer for the group 100 Monkeys. His natural hair color is also dark as opposed to the blonde he plays in the twilight movies. Fans have offered mixed reviews on the different hair styles worn by Rathbone.

The general consensus is that he looks better with his hair its natural color and some stubble on his face as if he had not shaved that day. Of the hairstyles worn in the twilight movies, reviews are even more mixed. Many fans preferred the new look as seen in the New Moon movie because it looks more natural. There are, however, some who think this hairstyle is outdated and looks like it belongs in the Civil War era. Almost no one prefers the hairstyle worn in the original twilight movie because it looks entirely to fake.

Nina Katchadourian.

I love Nina Katchadourian's Spider Web Repair from her 'Uninvited Collaboration' Series. What a clever idea. Spider webs, in my opinion, are amazing, so it isn't surprising that I am attracted to this work. I also suggest checking out her 'renovated mushrooms' and 'Barnacle Mixer'. Found via Kohler Created.

Who knew?

That field note books come in colours now? I am definitely getting a subscription next time they come out.

Swedish Films

It is my observation that Swedes have an uncanny ability to capture the most sincere aspects of adolescence. I saw three movies this past year that indicated just that to me. If you ever hear of a Swedish film being shown and know nothing about it -- I urge you to go see it. I have not seen one yet that I have not liked immensely.

Show me Love

Show Me Love is a film that depicts early teenage years (and relationships) mainly through a developing romantic relationship between two young girls. I had never heard of this movie, but Brendan, knowing my love for the Flickan the movie below, bought it for me as a long shot.

Flickan (The Girl)

This film is a must see (if you can find it). It has been playing in festivals all year and I was lucky enough to see it during the Vancouver Film Festival. It is a beautiful movie. It is quiet, sincere and so lovely. It is the type of film I want to live inside of. A young girl is left in Sweden to be babysat by her aunt as her parents and brother depart to Africa for the summer. Angry that she is too young to go, she is determined to be independent.

Watch a trailer for the film here.

Let the Right One In

This movie saw more wide spread popularity than the two films previous. I wouldn't call it a 'vampire movie' but the theme is there. Again -- it is beautiful. From the scenery, to the youthful relationships (both bad and good), to the presence of gorgeous Swedish design this movie is spot on.

How To Get Rid Of Split Ends

By the end of the sunny months, it is pretty normal to have damaged, dry hair with split ends. All of that sun, wind and styling the hair will stress it out during those hot months. It brings about split ends and makes us regret every bit of it. This is why you should pay more attention to your hair and try to avoid those split ends. Guys, if you have damaged hair already, then you need to know how to get rid of split ends.

First, you need to avoid getting damaged hair all together. To do this, you need to pay more attention to your hair during the summer months. Look at all the damaging factors you are exposing those locks to.

Start by avoiding that salty breeze or too much sun exposure. You should never brush your hair when it is wet. When it is wet, it is the most vulnerable.

Those split ends can be treated. One of the most effective ways to treat them would be to regularly trim your hair. Also, having a proper hair care routine is pretty important. This includes washing it from the roots to the tip and conditioning it in the same manner. You should regularly wash those locks and use some hair masks every now and then.

Another factor that can help repair those damaged locks is applying Vitamin E to it. You should also make sure you are on a healthy diet. The food you should eat should consist of all the vitamins your body needs. By living a healthy lifestyle, you will be sure to have a head full of healthy locks. Remember, to completely get rid of those split ends, the only possible thing would be to cut the ends off. Preventing them is much easier than getting rid of them.

Elixia Limonade.

While at Au Petit Chavignol we had the pleasure of trying Elixia Limonade. It comes from (edit: I was mistaken, it is from France) and has a long history. It is my new favourite beverage, having just the right amount of flavour, sugar and carbonation. It is a dream. Apparently you can buy it at Whole Foods. This I will have to investigate.

Project Runway.

Is anyone excited about the new season of Project Runway? Although reality tv sometimes seems repetative after the first few seasons my love for project runway is still strong. I think it comes down to the passion behind each contestant. I want all of them to succeed and make it to the finale (regardless of their personality). I haven't quite picked favourites yet but these are some of my favourite designs from the first episode. Have you picked favourites?

Laura Lombardi.

There are so many incredible jewelry designers out there. Laura Lombardi is definitely up there. I love how she combines industrial and organic aesthetics.

Vancouver Guide: Au Petit Chavignol

I recently went to a fairly new restaurant in Vancouver called Au Petit Chavignol. It is located on East Hastings street which some of you may know as 'not a very nice part of town'. It is good to note that the reputation of East Hastings is more bark than bite and there are many great little places to be discovered.

The restaurant is small, smartly decorated with a relaxed atmosphere. It is in a fairly slow part of town, which is a nice change from a lot of other popular restaurants. We sat at a table near the window and watched the rain pour down outside.

We decided to share the 'grand platter' which includes a selection of cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments (and bread and crackers). It was delicious. I love the opportunity to try different types of cheese and meats from around the world without having to commit to a large amount. They also serve fondue, raclette and a variety of entrees.

To finish off the evening I had my first taste of creme brulee. It was flavoured with Grand Marnier and I thought I was in heaven.

I highly recommend Au Petit Chavignol for anyone living in or visiting Vancouver. And if you happen to be there for lunch, be sure to check out their store next door stocked with a overwhelming variety of cheese and delicacies.
